Summer trip to Costa Rica
The Young Ambassadors Program from the World Affairs Council of Washington D.C. is offering a trip to Costa Rica this summer. The trip includes sight-seeing in San Jose, drive to Pas Volcano, visit to Jaco Beach, hikes through Monteverde Forest, and a trip to Cloud Forest.
The trip is from July 6-27. It costs $1500, which includes airfare, meals, travel fees, tuition, and homestay. WAC-DC will provide a 2/3 matching grant of $3000 to each student participating. All students will be required to create a multimedia package of their experience in Costa Rica.
A 2013 participant said, “I never thought I would travel over two thousand miles away to learn about the values I needed for my own life, but through this trip, I have changed my attitude towards life.”
The itinerary for the trip is as follows. Prior to the trip, students and parents will join WAC-DC and chaperones for an orientation session (Q&A, packing list, and expectations will be covered).
During the first two weeks, students will immerse in Costa Rican culture through homestays with locals, intensive language training at Conversa Language School, dancing rituals, and local cuisine.
Students will spend the third week exploring the natural wonders of Costa Rica’s rich and diverse ecosystems through drives to Pas Volcano, sight-seeing in San Jose, and hikes through Monteverde Forest and Cloud Forest.
At the end of the trip, students will present their multimedia package to parents, WAC-DC, and participating schools.
“I think this is a very fun and entertaining trip,” supervisor Wynndolyn Thompson said. “It’s also educational at the same time. You get to experience a lot of South American culture while you’re there and learn many new things.”
