When Pokémon X and Y came out last year, fans were busy saving the Kalos region. Now many fans have completed the game and are awaiting the newest game, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, a remake from the 2003 game Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.

Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire was released in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance, and featured Pokémon mascots Groudon and Kyogre.

Ever since the teaser trailer came out, fans have been wondering what this new version will contain. Will it contain the same gym leaders? If so, will they look the same? Will it have the same starter Pokémon?

“I think without a doubt that they’ll keep the old gym leaders,” sophomore Ever Martinez said. “It’s a remake so they could just be older or just look different but I doubt they’d change gym leaders.”

“Since these games are direct remakes, I highly doubt that any new Pokémon would be introduced,” junior Alex Sedgwick said. “Aside from maybe mega evolutions, but the old gym leaders will definitely be back since these are remakes.”

In 2010, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver came out. It was a remake of the first Pokémon game, Pokémon Gold and Silver. It also contained the same starter Pokémon and gym leaders from the original game.

The latest trailer for these new Pokémon games came out June 10. In this new game, the journey begins in the Hoenn region. Before starting on their journey, the player must pick his or her first Pokémon from the returning starters, Treeko, Torchic, and Mudkip. The player will then travel all over the Hoenn region with their Pokémon, battling trainers and gym leaders from the original game to become a Pokémon master.

Along the way the player will discover the secrets of mega evolutions, which was discovered in the Pokémon X and Y game. Mega evolutions give a Pokémon the ability to evolve beyond its limit.

“I’m excited because now all the [Pokémon] starters can now mega evolve.” Sedgwick said.

“Ruby and Sapphire came out in 2003 and I played them as a kid,” freshmen Benjamin Murdock said. “So I’m really excited to play in the Hoenn region again.”

This remade, updated version comes out worldwide on November 21.
