Christy Winter- Scott is widely known throughout the women’s basketball community.

As a former student athlete at the University of Maryland and eventually a professional basketball player in Italy and Switzerland, Winter- Scott is heavily educated on the game.

After her playing years, Winter-Scott brought her education of the game back to the metro area as she now serves as the varsity women’s basketball coach and as an analyst for the Washington Mystics.   

 “I really felt that my move into the broadcast industry was one that I was interested me and allowed me to stay close to the game,” Winter-Scott said.

Winter-Scott has had interest in the broadcast industry since her days at South Lakes.

“I first wanted to be an analyst during my tenth grade year,” Winter-Scott said. “My inspiration came from seeing Cheryl Miller play and then eventually turn into an analyst after a great professional career.”

While she had interest in the career since tenth grade, Winter-Scott believes she could not be able to reach this point of success without her days spent working at cable access.

“I really believe that my experience at cable access was the x-factor in me reaching my career,” Winter-Scott said. “My hard work and the constant pressure in the studio really gave me great experience in the industry.”

Unlike many other professionals in the industry, Winter-Scott’s opportunity to be a Mystics analyst came through quite out of the blue.

“I was approached while I was in the middle of a report for my public news show,” Winter-Scott said. “They had been watching my weekly show on public access and asked me how I felt about being the official analyst for the Mystics. Before they could even finish their sentence I had said yes.”
