Freshman girls basketball defeated McLean 41-39 Friday, Jan. 18.
South Lakes started first quarter in the lead, but McLean caught up and was in the lead at the end of the second and third quarter. With an intense fourth quarter, South Lakes won the game.
South Lakes led 10-9, but McLean was in the lead by halftime 23-19 and third quarter 23-32. Nevertheless, coach Maddy Gildea and some team members kept on cheering on for team.
South Lakes came back, continuously scoring in the beginning of fourth quarter. Halfway into the final quarter, McLean was in the lead 34-33.
South Lakes caught up, but with 30 seconds left in the game, McLean scored 39-39. Guard Erica Christopher scored seven seconds into the game, allowing them to win the game.
“The game felt good,” Christopher said. “The game was pretty intense, especially by fourth quarter.”
Fourth quarter brought excitement to the audience, players, and the coach.
“The game was very exciting,” Gildea said. “The girls did what they could do and the girls played the extreme tough fourth quarter.”
