When you hear the word Canadian, the first thing that comes to people’s mind is hockey. That’s exactly what Teddy Leggett, a freshman here at South Lakes is all about.
“I was born and raised around hockey,” Leggett said. “Almost everyone in my family plays hockey, but I’m the only person that takes it really serious. I want to have a career in hockey.”
Leggett plays for the Washington Little Capitals, a Washington Capitals developmental youth team in one of the top ranked divisions in the United States. He plays center for the Little Capitals and as long as he is on the ice, Leggett is happy..
His older brother, Austin Leggett, is an alumnus of South Lakes and goes to University of Toronto but does not play hockey. His other brother, Alex, is a senior here at South Lakes.
“I wish I could play for the South Lakes hockey team, but Little Capitals take up too much of my time,” Leggett said. “I wish to play lacrosse and do track in the spring when hockey is over.”
School is a major priority for Leggett, but it takes too much of his time.
“I took an online elective and gym over the summer so I could only have five classes and more time for hockey,” Leggett said.
Leggett’s future wishes are to go to the University of Toronto and play hockey, even trying to make it to the big leagues such as the NHL.
“It’s expensive and tiring to build a career in hockey, and that’s the only way he can get into a good university for four years,” his father, Michael Leggett said. “It would be great for him to play in the big leagues someday, but it is really hard to work yourself up there. I hope to see Teddy do the best he can.”
“It takes a lot of family coordination and expenses, but I want to support him along every step of the away because I can see how hard he works at his game,” his mother, Mary Jo Leggett said. “His dream to play hockey is so important to him, and if he dreams big enough he will have an amazing career in hockey.”
“As long as I’m hitting the puck, I’m one happy hockey player,” Leggett said.
