Though an airplane can travel overseas and half way around the world, junior Sania Shaffi went right next door to Canada during the first week of October.
Shaffi is a long time traveler and has visited many different European countries, including London, Italy, France, and Germany. Shaffi has traveled as far as Hong-Kong, so her recent trip to Montreal, Quebec, in Canada was comparitively less adventurous.
“In truth, the other places were better,” said Shaffi. “They were less like America.”
Shaffi spends so much time traveling because her mother works at the Dulles Airport and they recieve discounts when they travel.
She only spent two days in Canada because both Shaffi and her parents wanted to avoid missing school and work. In Montreal, Shaffi spent her time sightseeing and visited local sites such as McGill college, a university where students primarily speak English.
Shaffi also spent her time shopping and picked up a few souvenirs and a dress.
“My favorite part of the trip was shopping,” said Shaffi. “It’s my thing.”
Despite all the places where Shaffi has traveled, she still enjoyed the Canadian culture and would like to visit again. Although she did not see the iconic Canadian Mounties, she collected a few syrup bottles in one of the shops she visited and enjoyed visiting with the locals.
“Everyone spoke French and dressed really nice,” said Shaffi. “It was really European.”
According to Shaffi, the least exciting part of the trip was the plane ride to Montreal.
“I didn’t really like the plane ride,” said Shaffi. “It was short and boring.”
