Dawn Garcia is a South Lakes alumnus who has joined the teaching staff as an English teacher.
“Being back at South Lakes High School as a teacher is like homecoming for me,” said Garcia.
Garcia has seven years of teaching experience behind her. Recently, she taught at Marshall and Falls Church High Schools.
“I love teaching all secondary grade levels, but I have the most experience with freshman and seniors,” said Garcia.
Garcia wants to see all of her students set goals for themselves and be successful in any way possible. She would like to help encourage her students to achieve their own goals. Garcia is very impressed that students can adapt to the rapidly involved world we are in.
Garcia has always wanted to teach. Prior to teaching, Garcia has held different careers such as international market, event planner, contract administration, and management.
For her Bachelor’s degree, Garcia graduated from Marymount University, majoring in English and Secondary Education. She graduated at George Washington University from which she received her Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction.
Garcia enjoys reading, writing, dancing, and traveling.
“My husband and I make it a point to travel someplace new every summer,” said Garcia.
She has been to Brazil, Thailand, Spain, Italy, Greece, France, England, Philippines, and Australia.
