This holiday season, teachers follow a Seahawk tradition of giving to fellow colleagues and students in need.
Faculty members buy gift cards from local stores such as Target or Safeway and give them to assistant principal Lindsay Trout, who in turn sends the gifts in holiday cards to students who have been identified by their counselors as financially deprived.
“Teachers at this school are very generous,” said Trout. “It’s very nice thing they are doing for our students. They can then use the money to buy a small present or some food for the holidays.”
Principal Bruce Butler believes that this annual giving tradition allows the Seahawk faculty to better serve the Reston community.
“It a great event that we’ve been doing over the years,” said Butler. “We have even gotten some families coming in and donating a few gift cards. It just shows the giving and caring culture of this community.”
