Avatar Studios, led by the franchise co-creators, Micheal Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko, reveals a new series featuring a brand new earth Avatar, following their previous Avatar, Korra.
Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon unveiled the official title of the brand new series: Avatar: Seven Havens. Alongside the announcement they released a short summary on Avatar: The Last Airbenders and Nickelodeon’s instagram accounts which stated: “set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra- but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior.
Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”
Opinions in the community are currently mixed, with perspectives influenced by whether viewers enjoyed or disliked the previous entry in the franchise, The Legend of Korra. Fans who didn’t favor the sequel series worry that the new installment will follow in The Legend of Korra’s footsteps and lack the spark that made the original series extremely special for that audience. Meanwhile, fans of both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are optimistic about the news and are excited for the return of this well-established franchise, with many taking to social media to express this joy. The community has waited for the co-creators return, especially after they announced they departed from the netflix live-action series released in 2024. The results of this series left fans “very” disappointed.
Information about the show has appeared across the internet since late 2024, including big social media platforms like Reddit and Youtube. These leaks have revealed concept designs and provided a detailed look into the new story. This upcoming Earth Avatar and their twin are both nine years old, it remains unclear whether they both share the power of the avatar or if only one of them holds the title. Additionally, the leaks suggest that a cataclysmic event occurred, Avatar Korra attempted to prevent it. As a result the fan favorite world structures of the four nations no longer exist, instead, the world is now divided into seven “havens” which are presumably cities populated by survivors of the cataclysmic event.
While leaks are not always entirely accurate, many sources seem to align on these key details. One thing is certain, this new series will be set in a dystopian future.
