Sarbucks is removing over 10 beverages from their menu in less than a week as a part of the company’s “back to Starbucks” initiative where they are aiming to refocus on what Starbucks really started out to be, coffee. This decision targets drinks which are somewhat less popular, harder to prepare, or those that are similar to existing menu items.
The beverages that are set to be discontinued include:
-Iced Matcha Lemonade
-Espresso Frappuccino
-Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino
-Java Chip Frappuccino
-White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino
-Chai Crème Frappuccino
-Caramel Ribbon Crunch Crème Frappuccino
-Double Chocolaty Chip Crème Frappuccino
-Chocolate Cookie Crumble Crème Frappuccino
-White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino
-White Hot Chocolate
-Royal English Breakfast Latte
-Honey Almond Milk Flat White
The whole reasoning behind this plan is not only to cut down the menu, but also to enhance the quality and consistency of drinks and reduce the wait time of Starbucks products. With fewer complicated drinks on the menu for baristas to make, the wait time will shorten. This is something that Starbucks has been working on, especially in the busiest locations.
Students at South Lakes have concerns regarding the removal of some of their favorite drinks, as Starbucks is one of the main places where the Reston community comes together.
“I think it’s outrageous that they are removing all of the frappuccinos, I think that this is all just a money grab because they think that people don’t order as many frappuccinos as they used to,” said Junior Adrianna Davis.
Despite the removal of these 13 products, Starbucks will still allow you to customize drinks to your prefence, although it may come with additional costs. For example, adding specific syrups, sauces, add-ins or even a base to your drink will charge you extra.
In addition to the many changes, Starbucks is implementing organizational reconstruction. In simplified terms, this means that the company plans to lay off around 1,100 corporate employees and also lay off several hundred unfilled positions to improve operational efficiency. Not to fear, these layoffs will not be affecting employees or even those in warehousing, manufacturing and distribution.
Looking ahead, Starbucks does plan to continue with the seasonal items that they come out with each year. Coming up soon is the spring menu, with the return of some old items such as the lavender beverages and the addition of a few new items, two of them being the iced cherry chai, and a jalapeno chicken pocket.
