South Lakes High School Junior Anna Harris is a three year varsity field hockey player, and is currently committed to Kutztown University for field hockey. Harris has been playing the sport since she was 11 years old, and it has been such a big part of her life; both her mom and grandmother played field hockey.
Choosing to play field hockey in college wasn’t a hard decision for Harris; she practices and works out every day. Harris had offers from schools ranging from D1 to D3 but ultimately decided that D2 was the best fit for her.
“D1 is a really big time commitment and I don’t see myself becoming professional, I wanted to go D2 because it seemed like the best balance between school and field hockey,” Harris said.
Kutztown University (KU) is located in Kutztown, Pennsylvania with a total of 6,000 students. It is known for its small school feel, education programs, and its affordable tuition. KU field hockey won the national championship in 2023 and was in the national championship this year. KU field hockey is ranked fourth in the Atlantic Region rankings. Although she hasn’t committed to a major, she knows that KU is the right school for her.
“I chose Kutztown because it felt like home, the coaches were really nice, and the field hockey program is really good,” Harris said.
This coming year will be Harris’ last year on the South Lakes field hockey team. She is really excited to start her college career, but she will also miss the highschool team. One of her favorite memories on the highschool team was winning Districts in her freshman year against Madison High School. Harris feels that the South Lakes field hockey team has really fulfilled her love for the sport and has given her many memories.
