As the Spring comes around, students are in the position to earn some money to prepare for the summer. Northern Virginia is a perfect place with endless opportunities for youth. If you’re interested in finding a job, whether you’re under 18 or over, here’s a list to help you.
Many students like to work at gyms or workout centers. Lifetime Fitness is hiring students to aid in their LifeCafe, as a lifeguard, or at their child center. This is a great opportunity to work with people of all ages at a nice facility. Students enjoy working at Lifetime because of the flexible schedule and the pay that starts at $15/hour. Another perk of working at Lifetime is the free membership and ability to use their gorgeous gym at any time that you’re not scheduled to work.
Starbucks is available on almost every corner in Northern Virginia, and many locations are hiring in search of baristas. A normal day on the job would include ringing people up at the register, making drinks and heating food, helping out customers, and cleaning up at the end of the day. Similarly to Lifetime, the starting salary is approximately $15.50/hour.
If you’re interested in greeting people, working as a host/hostess at a restaurant would be a great choice. Ask any restaurant in your area if they’re looking for someone to pick up extra hours. Putting yourself out there never hurts! Some locations currently offering jobs include Lucias, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, The Capital Grille, and Uncle Julios. Other locations can be found through a simple Google search!
If you’re looking to work in retail, search for opportunities at local malls in your area! Two spots that accept employees under 18 are Aerie and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Working here includes greeting customers and checking them out, facilitating returns, helping customers find clothing or other products that fit their needs, and cleaning up and resetting the store at the end of the day! Employees at retail stores often get perks like discounts on items, something everybody appreciates.
One more option would be to travel into a downtown area and search for small, family owned shops or businesses. Working here can provide a more personalized experience, but payment varies. Working at a place like this allows you to get close to your managers and owners and could possibly provide you with other job opportunities to help you move up the ladder as you grow older and search for more professional jobs.
Searching for a job isn’t as hard as it seems, and there are always people in your community looking to help you! Getting a job is a great path to growth, and can be a good use of extra time that helps you pocket some extra cash.
