Ms. Braxton is our technology specialist who just recently started working for South Lakes. Her job in the building is to work with teachers, however when working with them she often finds herself helping them do things that directly affect students. Her work helps ensure that our school’s technology runs smoothly, such as the grading system and Schoology just to name a few.
A big goal of hers is considering ways for teachers to use technology to engage students in classrooms. She looks for “tech tool lessons and more engaging ways to incorporate AI in ways which are ethical and easy and that will help students compete in the workforce,” Ms. Braxton said in an interview with the South Lakes Sentinel.
Examples of this include making sure the gradebook is accurate through a grade book report every quarter and meetings with students and teachers 1 on 1.
Ms. Braxton was drawn to becoming a school technology specialist because of her experiences in the education field.
In an interview Ms.Braxton says that “I used to be a Social Studies teacher at Mclean and then after that moved into the central office where I worked with adults and newer teachers.”
She said that this was fun but she missed being in a school and being around students. She also says, “It was hard working with adults because a lot of the work I was doing was professional development and then I wouldn’t see them again so you never really knew if you were making an impact.”
All of these things impacted her decision making on working in a school again.
Ms. Braxton feels that she makes an impact by “helping teachers help students with lessons on a literal scale when it comes to accuracy or helping teachers become more prepared in the digital age and helping make students feel more engaged.”
Something she would like students to know is that if you have any questions about ethical use with AI, stop by her office located at the tech office.
