There has been a lot of stress surrounding the weeks after Thanksgiving break leading up to Winter break. For many students, the three school weeks are filled with loads of assignments, quizzes, projects, and tests. These weeks are also uninterrupted, a shift from November, which had only one full 5-day week of school.
“I’m pretty stressed about my work since I have to work on my research paper for government, my science fair project, and my MYP project,” Sophomore Katie Bagley says. “I’ve already had two quizzes and I’m currently studying for a test.”
Concerns have also been raised at the amount of work assigned before break but due right after the break. “I feel like teachers expect me to finish it over Thanksgiving break,” Sophomore Sophia Molnar claims.
“It’s all work I had to do before the break that’s due right after.” Sophomore Bruno Miller says.
Sophomore Erica Ocansey also faced stress because of the pre-break work, saying that “A lot of my teachers piled up a lot of work, so before the break I was super stressed because all of my assignments were due after the break.”
Along with the high load of homework and assignments received, many students have noticed the amount of quizzes and tests to take during the first week after Thanksgiving Break.
“I’m very stressed because sometimes you’ll have quizzes and tests during the same week, or even the same day,” Sophomore Savannah Blair explains. Blair also says she struggles with keeping up with her homework and in-class assignments because she plays sports outside of school hours.
“I’m feeling pretty stressed because I have three tests today,” Sophomore Manuela Kossi says.
Some students believe that the reason that they receive immense amounts of work after Thanksgiving break and before Winter break is because of the lack of full weeks during November, and ultimately causing teachers to have to assign most second-quarter work quickly before another big break.
However, there are other students who have dealt with less stress after the break, but rather had piles of work prior to it.
“Right now, I’m not really stressed because a lot of my teachers piled up a lot of work before the break, so I was super stressed then, but not anymore since all my assignments were due before the break” Sophomore Erica Ocansey states.
“I’m also not that stressed out because I did all my assignments before the break began,” Sophomore Austin Grisard explains.
Despite that, many students at South Lakes overall feel extra pressure and stress as the final weeks before winter break approach.
