For the first time, South Lakes has hosted their very own movie night for students!
The evening included a family-friendly showing of Hotel Transylvania from 7-9 pm, delicious concessions sold, and a bring your own seating recommendation for hanging out on the football field. The event also had free admission. The South Lakes team was able to connect with Fun Flicks to create this experience.
Countless students and families fled onto the football field with blankets, laughing as they ran inside to grab a spot on the crowded field. Facing the home side of the stadium, there was a massive projector screen that illuminated the evening sky.
“There were games like a ring toss, great concessions, and there were face painting activities for the kids who came. We were so excited to see everybody come out,” Senior leadership student Sofi Pehrson said. “We really enjoy organizing fun events for the elementary aged kids as well as high schoolers, everybody always has a good time.”
“I think I was looking forward to the concessions the most, or maybe the games too,” Senior Alex Darmory added as he meticulously crafted posters to hang at the event.
The class decided together on what movie should be shown, what activities would be the most exciting for the kids to participate in, and the date of the event. They worked hard to create posters and fliers to promote the evening’s most exciting events.
The program did accept donations, and the proceeds from the concessions were given back to the leadership team. The money is used to fund more events for students and faculty as well as the community. The goal is to continue traditions like this that serve as a way to bring the community closer together and get future seahawk students excited about coming to school events. The leadership team is also planning to integrate a trivia night in January, so keep your heads up, Seahawks!
The leadership program has been expanding, providing more entertainment opportunities and events for students, teachers, and members of the community to participate in. This adds attraction to the school and stands as a great way for students to get involved and bond outside of school hours.
This year, leadership has sponsored events such as a petting zoo in the first week of school, the annual Power Puff game, and of course the amazing homecoming celebrations. We are thankful for the behind-the-scenes work that they put in in order to make school an exciting and fun opportunity!
