Sophomores at South Lakes are all beginning to take on their MYP Projects. The point of these projects is to prepare the students for the IB program available to them next year, and to help explore different IB Learner Profile Traits.
The type of project that one can accomplish varies, from crafting different products, picking up new skills, or beginning an organization or company.
For her MYP Project, Sophomore Katie Bagley is creating a small business based off of selling bracelets, called “Bagel’s Bracelets”.
“I’m making clay bead bracelets and I am going to be selling them on Etsy, and I’m also going to be donating the profits that I make to an organization,” Bagley explains. “I’ve always liked making bracelets, especially clay bead bracelets, and I wanted to incorporate that into my MYP project.”
After brainstorming her project, Bagley realized that there was no better way to include the joy she finds making bracelets than making it her MYP project.
Each of the bracelets will cost in between $3.50 to $5, depending on each bracelet and what color, charms, and types of beads are used in the bracelet.
“The order that I put in for my supplies was delayed but hopefully I will be able to get my Etsy account and business up soon and I can begin selling bracelets,” Bagley says.
Even after the MYP project, Bagley says she will continue her passion and make more bracelets to sell and expand her business.
Since the MYP Project is about gaining new MYP and personal skills, Bagley says she hopes to improve her time management skills while starting the business in between making bracelets, school, and sports, and potentially pick up several marketing skills throughout the entire process.
