Gilmore Girls:
Starring Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, this show is one of many people’s favorites. Gilmore Girls, made in the 2000’s, continues to be loved and watched by a great number of people to this day. Gilmore girls is an American comedy drama series and was created by Amy Sherman Palladino. It originally aired on October 5th, 2000 on the WB. The show is about a single mom, Lorelai and her daughter, Rory, who are more like best friends rather than mom and daughter. The two of them live in the small charming town of Stars Hollow based in Connecticut, along with their best friends and somewhat odd townspeople. The show also features Lorelai’s parents whom she doesn’t really get along with, but who are soon to be more involved in both Lorelai and Rory’s lives after paying for Rory’s tuition at her new school.
Gossip Girl:
Starring Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Ed Westick, Chase Crawfrod & Penn Badgley, Gossip Girl is another show from the late 2000s that is beloved and watched by many. Based on the book series by Cecily Von Ziegesar that goes by the same name, Gossip Girl is a teen drama series that will take you through the luxurious and dramatic lives of a wealthy group of teenagers also known as Manhattan’s Elite, who go to a prestigious private school on the upper east side of New York City. Their lives are continuously being observed and commented on by a blogger that goes by the name of “Gossip girl” all while they deal with their own drama throughout their high school and college years. Most of their private life details get published for everyone to read. They must try to expose the true identity behind “Gossip girl.”
Coraline:
A must watch for the spooky fall season, based on the book “Coraline” by Neil Gaiman, Coraline is a stop motion animated fantasy horror film that was released on February 6th, 2009. This film features the voices of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, John Hodgeman, Keith David & more. It was written by and screen directed by Henry Selick. Coraline is about a girl and her parents who move from Michigan to the Pink Palace Apartments in Oregon. She later goes on to explore her new house and while exploring, she discovers a small door with a wall behind it. Later that night, she finds that it has been replaced by a tunnel that leads to the “Other world.” The “Other world” is a pocket dimension controlled by the Beldam, also known as the other mother. She enters the tunnel and discovers a whole new world that seems like a dream come true at first. Later in the movie, she gets warned by three ghost children who tell Coraline the truth about the other mother and the other world. Coraline then faces some challenges and uses all her courage to face them. The film ends in Coraline’s family hosting a garden party for the residents of the Pink Palace Apartments.
Hocus Pocus:
A true halloween classic, Hocus Pocus, is an american fantasy comedy film created by David Kirshner and Mick Garris. It was released on July 16, 1993 and stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy. The film first takes place on Halloween night, 1693 in Salem Massachusetts, when Thackery Binx finds out his sister, Emily, has been taken away to a cottage by three witches, Sarah Sanderson, Mary Sanderson and Winifred Sanderson. Binx then confronts the three sisters but gets punished by the witches who turn him into a black cat for trying to intervene. Soon, the witches get arrested for Emily’s murder and sentenced to death. Before they are killed, Winifred casts a spell that will bring them back to life on the full moon on Halloween, only if a black flame candle gets lit in their cottage. Three centuries later, in 1993, a teenager named Max takes his younger sister out trick or treating along with his crush, Allison. They go into the Sanderson house and the black flame candle gets lit, which resurrects the witches. Later in the film, both the witches and teenagers have to deal with some challenges.
The Nightmare Before Christmas:
Another classic, The Nightmare Before Christmas is a stop motion fantasy animation directed by Henry Selick. It is based on a story and characters are created by Tim Burton. The film takes place in the fantasy world of Halloweentown, filled with several monsters and different kinds of beings. It follows the king of HalloweenTown, Jack Skellington, who gets bored of doing the same thing every year. He later happens to discover Christmas town and loves the idea of Christmas. He studies it, trying to find a way to explain it, as he and the rest of his friends are unfamiliar with the holiday. He gives up and decides that Halloweentown will take over Christmas. Jack tries turning the whole town into a Christmas themed village, even sending a trick or treating trio, Lock, Barrel, and Shock, to kidnap Christmas town’s ruler, Santa Clause, whom he refers to as “Sandy Claws.” Jack continues to do more and ends up getting in trouble. He eventually regains his love for Halloween but needs to act quickly to make things right and try to undo what he’s done, like rescuing Santa for starters. In the end, he and Santa are on good terms and finally, his peers understand the true meaning of Christmas.
