One of South Lakes’ longest tenured teachers, Mrs. Padgett has officially retired after 34 years. Spending her entire career in Fairfax County and a majority of her years at South Lakes, Mrs. Padgett has educated thousands of young minds over the years. A mainstay in South Lakes’ English department, she has helped students of all ages grow as learners, people, and reach their full potential. From general education to high-level IB courses, students of all levels and abilities have benefitted from Mrs. Padgett’s engaging and enthusiastic teaching style. The teacher has had lots of success over the years, including educating the South Lakes graduating class of 2013, who scored top in the world on their IB English exams.
Mrs. Padgett’s dedication to teaching has never been in question, as the educator had been helping around the school in the months leading up to her official retirement. Serving time in the library, performing administrative duties, and even subbing in various English classes for extended periods, Mrs. Padgett continued to be an exemplary member of the South Lakes staff. Now, after three decades of service, the teacher will enjoy some well deserved time off. Moving to the Outer Banks, Mrs. Padgett will spend her years in the relaxing sun, away from the responsibilities of teaching. While we are happy she will be able to enjoy her time off, Mrs. Padgett — one of South Lakes most beloved educators — will surely be missed.
