2022 American Music Awards (AMAs) recap
A stunning and bright night occurred recently at the annual event of the 2022 American Music Awards, which was hosted by Wayne Brady. The night marked the AMAs 50th year of existing as an award show.
The AMAs is an award show which honors artists, their music and their accomplishments for that year. An artist winning an award at the AMAs is completely dependent on the fans since they’re the ones voting for that artist.
The AMAs has had multiple well known events occur at the location such as Britney Spears and Justin Timberlakes matching denim couple outfit and Katy Perry’s (controversial) performance of her song “Unconditional.”

One highlight was Taylor Swift, a 46 time Grammy Award Nominee and 11 time Grammy Award Winner, being nominated for an award in six categories and winning the award in all of those categories This includes the Artist of the Year Award. Her winnings of the night marked her gaining in total 40 AMAs in her music career, cementing her position as the artist with the most AMAs in the AMAs history.
Another occurrence at the AMAs was when Kelly Rowland announced that Chris Brown won his award for “Favorite Male R&B Artist.” There was an immediate backlash from the audience. They started to boo Chris Brown, most likely because of the situation that occurred with him and Rihana back in 2009.
Lionel Richie was given a significant award that night on stage, too. He earned the “Icon Award” at age 73 which is only gifted to an artist after they’ve had a long lasting legacy in music. Additionally, Lionel Richie also performed on stage with other artists (Stevie Wonder, Ari Lennox, Smokey Robinson, Jimmie Allen and Muni Long) to sing the song “We Are The World,” a song by Lionel Richie himself.
