New Wegmans set to open in Reston
Reston is getting a Wegmans supermarket, after an almost four-year long wait. The new store will open its doors for the very first time on Wednesday, February first, 2023 at nine a.m.
It has been such a long wait for the store opening, and Reston residents are getting excited. Sophie Jones, a freshman, praised the stores, saying, “I love it, and the atmosphere is amazing.”. Her past experiences with the chain have been great, but she says other stores are too far away for her to go normally, “The only reason we went is that we were out there anyway. We definitely wouldn’t have gone if we weren’t in the area.” She says that the Reston Wegmans location will make it a lot easier for her to get to the stores, and she is very excited for this new location to open closer to home.
The new supermarket will be a part of the Halley Rise development, a project that has been in the works since 2019 and is estimated to be completed fully in 2026. Turning an office park into a new area with housing, offices, green spaces, and community activities, the Halley Rise development will be a collection of buildings. The Wegmans specifically will be located on the second floor of the seven-story apartment building named The Edmund, with around 380 apartments above it.
Wegmans is a chain of over 100 supermarkets spread across the northeastern United States. Known for their shopping experience and quality products, Wegmans likens their stores to a European open-air market, and they have many places within their stores to get hot or ready-to-eat meals. The Wegmans store opening in Reston will have a burger bar, café, and coffee shop. The burger bar serves burgers, fries, sandwiches, and some locations have salads and milkshakes.
Wegmans is holding a hiring event on November eighth to hire employees for the new store. The event will go from ten-thirty a.m. to four-thirty p.m. and will be held at The Edmund apartment complex. Anyone interested can also apply online for positions at the Halley Rise Wegmans here.
