Homecoming Spirit Week
The South Lakes student body has no shortage of school spirit and creativity and what time is that more evident than Spirit Week! Falling on the week of homecoming, the excitement is palpable as students meander the hallways dressed in fun costumes and eccentric dress wear. Thanks to SLHS Leadership, students are able to best create outfits corresponding to the theme for that day, which all tie into the theme for homecoming, “Who Dunnit”, a mystery themed dance.
Coming in strong on Monday, students were representing the Seahawk colors with the theme “Green and blues clues”. For this theme, the students and staff were asked to wear as much blue and green as they possibly could, and they went all out! There were green tutus galore, blue necklaces bouncing in the halls, and colored hats covering the heads of many. This theme was an awesome way to flaunt Seahawk pride through wearing the school colors.
Following this was “partners in crime”, a group costume day where students showed up as iconic duos or groups. It was a great way to incorporate friendships into the soaring spirit week.
Wednesday brought us yet again another color theme, “spooky Seahawks” where students were encouraged not only to dress their Halloween best, but to also wear orange, purple, and black. Although simple, there were definitely ways to make sure you looked super spirited. Through witch hats, pumpkin socks, and purple bandanas, students definitely were able to show their spirit.
Next paying homage to a classic sci-fi theme and movie we had “Alien vs. Agents”, a theme identical to men in black. The agents were on the lookout for the aliens! Students were excited by this theme because they got to act either like an alien coming from outer space, or like a spy being on a mission to find those aliens. This theme was a lot of fun for everyone.
Finally, to close out a fantastic spirit week, the recurring “class colors” was yet again this week’s last theme. Freshmen wore green, sophomores wore blue, juniors wore yellow, seniors wore orange, and staff wore black. This day also ended in an epic pep rally that filled the room with anticipation for the upcoming dance. It was a great way to end the week. No matter how many times it is revisited, students are as always endlessly creative as they’ve been in years past.
The energy from such a lively week was only amped at the Friday pep-rally, where games, spirit winners, and the Seymour mystery all came to a close. The winning class this year were the Seniors and to finish the day our football team played Centreville in our Homecoming game.
