5 Things to Do This Weekend (4/21 – 4/22)
1.) Experience 30 different countries in a day with the 59th International Street Fair at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia! Learn more about exciting customs and traditions. Watch talented dancers and listen to exotic music. See beautiful traditional clothing at Global Fashion Show or take part in an interactive presentation. Be sure to check out the traditional arts and crafts, as well as the tasty ethnic food from international food trucks.

2.) Celebrate Earth Day! Head to Fredericksburg’s 15th annual Earth Day Festival at Old Mill Park in Fredericksburg, Virginia! There will be raffles, live music, pony rides, neat animals (from bees to birds of prey), good food, and more. You can also help keep Mother Earth beautiful by participating in the Earth Day of Service! If you’re looking for service hours, there are numerous opportunities in Richmond, Virginia. Plant some trees, rake leaves, remove trash, get rid of graffiti, and pull weeds.

3.) Dress professionally and head to the Teen Job Fair and Resume Building Workshop here at South Lakes! There will be over 40 potential employers for you to meet with that are looking to hire someone like you. If you’re looking for full-time employment, after-school shifts, seasonal positions, internships, or volunteer opportunities, you’ll definitely want to attend. Maybe, just maybe, you’ll land your dream job. Younger students will have the opportunity to participate in the Resume Building Workshop to learn how to perfect their resume so they may have successful job interviews in the future.

4.) Make it to the end of the SWCC Festival of the Arts at Southwest Virginia Community College in Cedar Bluff, Virginia! The SWCC Festival of Arts is the ultimate celebration of dance, art, theatre, and music. You can catch performances by renowned professionals such as Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra.

5.) Visit the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, Virginia! On your way into the museum, explore Jerrassic Park, their collection of lifelike dinosaur sculptures. Soar over the countryside in an authentic WWII aircraft with a veteran pilot, see an airshow, and (of course) take a look at their exhibits. The Military Aviation Museum has an extensive collection of aircraft from WWI and WWII, other aircraft used in the Army and the Navy, and foreign planes. Visit the Fighter Factory and watch as a plane is restored and repaired.
