Halloween is a season filled with fun activities such as trick or treating, costume parties and pumpkin patches. If you’re looking for a night in this year, why not have a Halloween movie night? Here are some of our favorite Halloween movie classics that will insure a fun night in with friends and family.
Hocus Pocus (1993) We couldn’t talk Halloween favorites without including this classic about an evil coven of Salem sisters determined to suck the youth from every little girl. New kid Max has one night to exile the witches and restore order to Salem.
Corpse Bride (2005) No one does delightfully scary quite as well as Tim Burton, who tells the story of Victor, who finds himself stuck in the underworld and accidentally marries a corpse bride. This animation does gothic romance at its absolute best and is perfect for a movie night.
Halloween (1978) The film franchise that introduced the world to Michael Myers, one of the best names in Halloween horror. Skip the nine others that came after it and go straight for the original Halloween movie, about a homicidal maniac who terrorizes babysitters on Halloween night.
Casper (1995) ‘90s kids will remember a young Christina Ricci starring as Cat in this animated live action film about the friendliest ghost in town. Pop on this flick for a little dose of family-friendly spooking.
The Addams Family (1991) This 1991 film based on the cartoon of the same name follows the crazy pranks of the peculiar Addams family who welcome back a long-lost relative.
Child’s Play (1988) Dark humor meets slasher in this ‘80s film franchise about a killer doll. Child’s Play 2 is the sequel and is also a great watch if you’re feeling a horror movie marathon. We wouldn’t recommend watching the sequels after that, since the first two are about as good as it gets.
Beetlejuice (1998) Tim Burton’s 1998 cult classic with an all-star cast of Michael Keaton, Geena Davis and Winona Ryder is about a group of ghosts who can’t get a couple of irritating humans to leave their home. This movie is very relatable to any teenagers stuck in the Halloween season year round.
The Nightmare before Christmas (1993) Don’t let the name of this movie trick you, this animation is a definite Halloween classic. This movie tells the story of the pumpkin king, Jack Skellington, who causes a great deal of trouble in Halloweentown when he decides that he’s tired of the town’s favorite holiday and tries to tackle a new celebration.
Halloweentown (1998) Speaking of Halloweentown… that’s the name of this well-known Disney original about a young girl who discovers her magical heritage and is forced to save her town from evil taking over. Another fun family classic to watch for Halloween!
Friday the 13th (1980) A Halloween cult classic that procreated nine sequels and inspired thousands of boy’s Halloween costumes. In the film, a group of young camp counselors are hunted by a strange killer at a summer camp known for weird things happening years before.
