ABC Family Changes Name to Freeform

ABC Family Changes Name to Freeform

One of the most popular TV channels in America, “ABC Family”, has changed its name to “Freeform.” The network has been called “ABC Family” ever since 2001. Some may ask, why would they change the name if they have been so successful? Are they being sued? Is a new company buying their network? No, they wanted a new name to approach younger viewers ages 14 to 34. It makes sense because a lot of the shows on the channel aren’t meant for younger viewers anyways, so might as well ditch the “family” out of the channel name. The “Freeform”/“ABC Family” journalists say, “‘Becomers’ represent a life stage rather than a generation”.

“[Younger people] are navigating the wonderful, fun, exciting, and scary time in life when you experience the most firsts. First car, first apartment, first job, first love, first heartbreak, all the firsts that exist between who they are and who they want to become. The audience’s identity and experience are fluid as they explore endless possibilities and their passions take shape,” they explain.

Lastly they add, “Freeform personifies this fluidity and will deliver ideas, forms of content and ways of interacting with the brand”. But, some viewers are upset about the name change. They’re unhappy because they’ve had the name “ABC Family” in their lives for so long. Are you a fan of the new name,“Freeform”? Or do you want “ABC Family” back?
