Sophomore Anna Gosling recently experienced a life-altering event. She was involved in a serious car accident that left her pelvis in pieces.
How did the crash occur?
My friend’s dad was driving us to school and we were taking a left onto Sunrise Valley when a car ran a red light and t-boned into us. The car door imploded into my pelvis.
In what ways has the accident affected you?
I fractured the right side of my pelvis in four places. I had to have surgery to put a screw in, and I’ll need another one to take it out. I also have to use crutches for six to eight weeks because I can’t put weight on my right foot and I need to use a wheelchair in school, which I don’t like. Another challenge is that I can’t participate in any afterschool activities.
Has it changed your outlook on life at all?
The accident made me realize how fragile life is. It is really important to live life to the fullest because you never know when something like this will happen.
How have your friends and family reacted?
Everybody has been really supportive, especially my extended family and friends. It’s been amazing how much people have come out to help me.
