Topping off the final spirit week competitions among each class was the annual South Lakes Homecoming Parade held on Friday, October 21.
A caravan of convertibles, dancers, cheerleaders, princes, princesses, and class floats traveled through Reston. Each class was assigned a specific superhero by the administration as inspiration for their float. The class of 2015 was assigned Captain America, 2014 was Superman, 2013 was Spiderman, and 2012 was Batman.
Starting at Hunter’s Woods Shopping Center, the parade turned onto Colts Neck Drive and was directed onto South Lakes Drive eventually coming to an end at South Lakes High School for the pre-homecoming game festivities.
After much deliberation from a panel of teacher judges, the seniors took the first place spot, with the juniors in second, sophomores in third, and the freshmen placing fourth.
“I think the grading was accurate,” said junior Camille Gilbert. “Yet in my opinion, overall none of the classes’ floats were cute.”
