Senior Tasha Adams to play college ice hockey
Senior Tasha Adams will attend Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut to play ice hockey next fall. She was recruited to play National Collegiate Athletic Association Division (NCAA) 3 ice hockey under the direction of four times US Olympian Jenny Potter.
Adams has dedicated 13 years of her life to ice hockey and Adams has traveled all around the world for her games.
“I have been up and down the East coast and as far West as Minnesota in the United States,” Adams said. “I have also been to Canada, Finland, and Russia to play ice hockey.”
Some of the states Adams has traveled to include Utah, Vermont, Alabama, Minnesota, and Michigan.
“The busiest time of the year is winter because it I have two to three tournaments a month,” Adams said. “These tournaments are 6 or more hours away and they take up the entire weekend. When I have time to do my homework I do it, whether it is in between games or in the car or at the airport.”
Adams often loses down time on the weekends because of her tournaments. She usually has one game on Saturday morning and another one in the afternoon or evening.
“Once the morning game is over I go back to the hotel, take a shower, and then find something to eat for lunch,” Adams said. “After lunch I either take a nap or work on some homework depending on when the next game is.”
After the second game, Adams eats dinner with her team and then goes to bed.
Winter is also a busy time for Adams because she plays on two teams, the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Tier 1 U19 and the South Lakes Ice Hockey Club.
Adams became interested in playing ice hockey after she saw a group of girls playing it during her skating lessons.
“I told my parents that I want to [play ice hockey],” Adams said. “They said okay thinking that I would not want to later. But once I learned how to skate I still wanted to play hockey so my parents took me to tryouts. And I have loved hockey ever since.”
