Best Buddies traveled to Oakton to compete in the annual Oakton Best Buddies Basketball Tournament, April 14.
The tournament consisted of 10 high school chapters and one college chapter from around the Northern Virginia area.
South Lakes started the tournament by facing off against George Mason High School. They lost in a close match and were eliminated from the tournament.
The tournament was won by the one college chapter, the George Mason University Chapter.
Though there was a winner in the tournament, the goal of the tournament was to provide the special needs students with a fun experience playing basketball with other students.
“The game was very fun,” said South Lakes Best Buddies Chapter president Saleh Saeed. “Everyone was able to participate in a friendly game with a supportive environment. It was a very rewarding experience.
Best Buddies meets once a month. The next meeting is May 30 in the gym.
