A band of five seniors known as “A Hero Poetic” performed at Jammin Java on November 21.
Last year, rhythm guitarist Edy Fahey, lead singer Tim Johnson, lead guitarist Brad Cohen and drummer Austin Chustz, were in a band called “Head Over Heels.” As members came and went, the band eventually turned into A Hero Poetic.
“I left [Head Over Heels] because I started playing lacrosse,'” said Johnson. “I tried to stay in the band but eventually it made more sense to leave because I was so busy. It wasn’t that hard getting back into the flow of things and luckily when I did we were better than ever. The addition of our new bassist Daniel Darnell really created a new aspect to the way we write our songs.”
This was the band’s first performance together since the new additions to their group.
“I was proud of our first performance,” said Chustz. “It went better than I expected. It was also great to see all the people who came out to support us.”
“[The show] went awesome,” said Cohen. “It was so tight to be on stage with the four guys I love most in this world having the time of our lives. I can’t wait for the next one.”
A Hero Poetic recently released their first EP titled “Someday You’ll Understand.”
“I love A Hero Poetic’s music,” said sophomore Anna Lopynski. “Their songs were amazing and I thought their cover of Kid Cudi was better than the original. Edy Fahey is such a good rapper and I want to date Tim Johnson.”
Lopynski, along with numerous other South Lakes students, attended the concert last Monday.
“The boys did great,” said senior Katie Bell. “I’m so proud of them. They worked so hard to put together a show that their fans would enjoy and I think it really paid off. The smiles on their faces that night were absolutely heartwarming.”
“[The concert] was so much fun,” said junior Christie Parvin. “They’re so talented and play so great together. I’m happy I’ll be able to say I went to their first concert when they all become famous.”
A Hero Poetic’s next show will be at Jammin Java on December 19.
“If everything continues to progress the way it is now, I don’t see what can stop us from getting to where we want to be,” said Johnson. “We’re just five guys living our dream, one note at a time.”
