This year, the new mural for the main hallway is being created by junior Nici Garanzini.
How did you get the opportunity to paint a mural on the wall?
You have to ask your art teacher and then you need to make a draft of what you want to paint and then you have to pitch the idea to Mr. Butler.  It’s a very long process but basically I had to seek out the opportunity.
Why did you want to create a mural?
I’m doing the mural because it helps me overcome the hardships in my life.
What are these hardships and how are they reflected in your painting?
I had a tough childhood and my parents were divorced. When I moved to a new school a lot of people ignored me and I was an outcast.  Then I made one friend, then another.  Eventually I had a lot of friends. It’s a mural about self-reflection, accepting yourself, and my own past experiences.
When do you think it will be finished?
I hope to finish it between the beginning of the third quarter and the third quarter interim progress reports.
How do you think your mural will compare with other murals in the hallway?
Some of the murals have a more realistic style then mine will be and some have less.  Mine is going to be in the middle with some elements of both.  I think the blending of my colors won’t be as common or detailed as the realistic ones.
