Girls Learn International is a club whose main goal is to broaden human rights awareness.
The South Lakes GLI is just one chapter out of many around the country.
The club partners South Lakes with an all-girls school in New Delhi, India. During the school year, the club earns money through fundraisers to put together packages with school supplies and accessories for the girls.
GLI president, senior Annie Passan, visited the partner school of South Lakes in India this past summer. During her stay, she delivered the care packages.
“It really inspired me to work harder this year,” said Passan.
Students interested in joining GLI should attend a meeting or contact Passan or the club adviser, biology teacher Kate Kahn. The club meets every other Wednesday after school in room 205.
“My favorite thing about GLI is the message it puts across,” said junior Kenya Calhoun. “The company advocates for human rights and equal education for men and women. It is so nice to think that our chapter is part of a movement that spans all over the world.”
