After their World series win in 2023, the Rangers have been struggling, finishing with a below 500 record in 2024. They were plagued with injury and they lost some of their important pieces before the 2024 season, including Jordan Mongomery to the Diamondbacks.
But this season they did make some small but significant moves during this offseason. One of their biggest signings of the offseason was 33 year old designated hitter Joc Peaterson. Joc has had some incredible seasons in San Francisco and Los Angeles. The two time all star has had an incredible 11 year career. He will add a great veteran presence along with Marcus Semien and Corey Seager.
They have also added a lot of depth pieces for their bullpen and maybe their starting rotation. They signed aging veteran, and the Nationals fans least favorite starting pitcher Patrick Corbin. While he was great with his first year with the Nationals, winning a world series and getting some Cy young votes along with an all star appearance. Since then he hasn’t had a single season where he was an above average pitcher. The Rangers might decide to use him as a bullpen piece for this upcoming season.
One starter that they are very happy to keep in Arlington is Nathan Eovaldi. The former Red Sox starter has been a consistent talent especially during the postseason. He already has 2 world series rings and will be a great help for a team that wants to make a deep postseason run.
If the Rangers play well, they will have a great chance of getting into the ALDS without even needing to play a wild card series. The AL west is terrible right now. The Angels and now no longer Oakland Athletics will most definitely not make the playoffs unless some crazy things happen. The Astros traded away all some of their best pieces, and so far haven’t replaced them. So if they can beat the Mariners in their division then they will have a great foothold to make a deep playoff run.
