Aaron Rodgers is widely known as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game of football. Though he was only able to achieve one SuperBowl victory, his ability to consistently throw any pass in any situation has shocked fans time and time again. From 60 yard bombs, to lasers with three 300 lb defensive tackles practically on top of him, you always know he won’t just get the pass off, but it’ll be absolutely perfect. He spent 18 seasons on the Green Bay Packers winning 4 MVPs, and 1 SuperBowl MVP in 2011. Now he’s 41, no one really wants him, and it might be the time for the Wisconsin legend to lay down the pads, once and for all.
After being drafted in 2005 out of UCal to the Green Bay Packers, he took all of his snaps on Lambeau Field till 2023 where he would be traded to the New York Jets. This was the true start of his downfall. The last time the Jets went to the playoffs was 2010. It was honestly as if the Packers just tossed him straight into the trash, and it played out that way too. 4 plays into Rodgers’ first game for the Jets, he tore his achilles. He got surgery just two days later, but he still missed the rest of the 2023 season.
It’s been a year since his injury, yet his play is still mediocre, and he’s getting pretty old. Older than most as he’s the oldest in the NFL. I think that’s a pretty big sign that it’s time to go home. Tom Brady was an exclusion of old age due to the fact that he was still the greatest of all time before he retired, and to be honest, if Brady returned he would still be better than Rodgers. Out of all 32 quarterbacks, he came in at 25 regarding quarterback ratings according to ESPN. Just 5 years ago it would’ve been incredibly likely that he was number one. It’s a new day, and Aaron Rodgers just does not fit in the picture anymore.
Now that Rodgers has been released from the New York Jets and has entered free agency, not too many teams want him. If anything, they’d pick him up in order to be a mentor for a young or rookie quarterback. The real problem is that he wants much more than just a backup mentor salary. He thinks he’s still a superstar, and his ego does not match his performance. I’m sure he’ll get picked up by another team this upcoming season, but I just don’t see him as a real option for any team that wants to be a true contender and his potential has dropped down to low level teams like the raiders, saints, colts, or browns. At such an old age, he really should just put up his cleats and bring it on home.
