From the disappointing season Virginia Tech has had to the mediocre mess that is UVA, there is some hope in Northern Virginia.
Both the girls and mens basketball teams have had great seasons in their own right. While the men’s team didn’t make it to March Madness due to a 68-61 loss at the hands of VCU, the women’s team earned the 11th seed in the tournament, with a March 22nd date with the #6 Florida State Seminoles on the cards (7:45, ESPN).
The leading scorer for this women’s team is Sophomore F Zahirah Walton. Averaging 15 points and 6 rebounds in 32 games, the Seattle native has become a force to be reckoned with.
On the men’s side of the ball, Jalen Haynes has been one to watch. The senior F from Fort Lauderdale has been a presence down low in the paint and a facilitator for his teammates, averaging 14 points and 7 rebounds.
Even though the men’s team is in the NIT tournament, they still haven’t stopped their domination. Saturday, they play the Bradley Braves at 2:00 PM. Be sure to check both teams out this March!
