Myles Garrett is known as one of the most dominant NFL players in the league and has broken records time and time again ever since his rookie season. Picked number one in the 2017 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns, he quickly made his position known as a top edge rusher showcasing his agility, speed, and unmatched power. Ever since his draft, he’s stayed loyal to the Browns and received praise from fans, teammates, and coaches who admired his dedication. The problem was that he wasn’t receiving one thing. Wins, or more specifically, a Super Bowl.
On February 23rd, 2025, Garrett officially announced that he had requested for a trade claiming that he loved Cleveland and all its residents, but his ultimate goal was to win a Super Bowl, which he wouldn’t be able to achieve with his current team. Many teams are on the board to receive the superstar edge rusher including the Washington Commanders, the reigning Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles, and possibly the Buffalo Bills after a video was released containing Garrett claiming “I don’t mind snow”.
But which of these options are truly realistic?
With the best defense in the league, the Philadelphia Eagles are on the lookout for a new lineman to replace the dominance of veteran Brandon Graham, who may potentially retire before the upcoming season. Garrett, paired with incredible defensive tackle Jalen Carter, would boost the already unstoppable Eagles D-line and take their defense to new heights. The only obstacle is the Eagles financial situation. Ranked 16th in the league, the Eagles only have around $9M to pay Garrett while he was on a $25M yearly contract in Cleveland. Unless the Eagles GM can make some magic, Garret might be too far of a reach.
The Buffalo Bills are another main prospect having a reasonably weak defensive line. Former Bill Von Miller brought immense power and pressure to the unit but since he’s left, they’ve been lacking the star they need. With the addition of Myles Garret, the Bills defense would be exceptional having both solid defensive backs as well as a strong pressure-bringing defensive line. Unfortunately, the Bills have one of the worst standings budgets in the league right now. With $12 million over their designated amount, meaning that they may not be able to withstand his contract of $25 million unless the GM can make some room. Another factor is what they’re actually able to offer the Browns. The team has consistency throughout its roster, but it caps out at that. The only true star on the Bills is their superstar quarterback, Josh Allen. If they were to trade for Garret, they’d likely have to give up several extremely vital draft picks in order to house the defensive end. For this reason, chances are slim, but definitely existent and the trade is very much possible.
All these teams have potential, but the Commanders are the organization in the lead to get the defensive end. Having a breakout season and going to the divisional championship, it’s finally their time to shine, and they’re looking to do anything to build up their own powerhouse. The Commanders have nearly the highest amount left in their cap budget at around $79.5 million which is easily enough to incorporate the star into their defensive line. Not only is it enough for Garret, but practically any player they could possibly want, possibly even multiple. With an already great defense, the demon on the defensive line would make a great addition, and they would become even more unstoppable.
No trades for Garret have been announced, but all fans are excited to see where he will ultimately play, and pursue his lifelong dream of winning a SuperBowl.
