Victor Wembyama has just been ruled out for the season by the Spurs after suffering a blood clot in his right shoulder. The Spurs organization noticed this when Wembanyama returned back to Texas from the 2025 All Star game in San Francisco. This will definitely impact the Spurs chances of making the playoffs as they currently are 23-29, placing them 12 in the western conference.
Victor Wembanyama this year was the Spurs overall key contributor. Wembanyama led the Spurs in points, rebounds and blocks. The Spurs might be okay considering their recent deadline trades getting DeAaron Fox which could take over the missing holes in their overall points but nothing to really fill those rebounds or blocks.
The injury suffered by Victor Wembanyama is a blood clot. A blood clot occurs when there is an injury, and the blood makes a clot to prevent the blood from leaking out, allowing the injury to heal. Once the injury is fully healed it takes around three months for the blood clot to go away.
The Spurs backup center Jeremy Sochan will most likely be the Spurs new center but is definitely not going to be as good as Victor Wembanyama. Considering that Wembanyama is taller, averages 3.8 more rebounds, 1.2 more assists, 3.3 more blocks, 0.2 more steals, and 12.6 more points, it is uncertain how well he will play. Looking at statistics, he is half as good as Wembanyama. However, this could possibly change since now Sochan will likely get more time on the court.
With all that being said the Spurs would have a good back up but will still miss their star player. This team will still definitely have a struggle climbing higher in their conference. Luckily, the Spurs can still look up to a dominant Spurs in the future with a healthy Wembanyama.
