Liverpool rightwinger/forward Mohamed Salah has been sensational. He’s only halfway through this season and already has made 18 goals and 13 assists, tying with his goal tally from last season. Salah is an incredible player who has risen above all expectations.
Most footballers retire around their mid thirties. At the age of 32, this season is expected to be one of Salah’s final few. Many doubted Salah last season due to it being one of his worst seasons statistically in the EPL (European Premier League). Regardless, he still scored 18 goals and is doing better this season.
One person in particular who previously criticized Salah was former Everton striker Yakubu Ayegbeni. “Salah is not world-class in my opinion. He is not good with the ball, and the majority of his goals are lucky goals.” Salah has proved Ayegbeni wrong. Currently, he is rated amongst the top 16 for the highest dribbling completion this season with a rate of 51.4%.
In the calendar year of 2024, Mohamed Salah had 52 goal contributions with the least amount of minutes per contribution. This season, in the EPL, Salah has not gone more than two matches without scoring a goal. No other player in Europe’s top 5 leagues has done so this season. It’s unsurprising that people are labeling him as the best player in the world right now.
As Salah’s abilities continually grow, talk has started about a possible Ballon d’Or waiting for him at the end of the season. Goal.com’s Ballon d’Or power rankings places Salah at the number one spot as the most likely to win the award. If he keeps up and remains healthy, this season could go down as his best and an iconic season for football enthusiasts to remember.
