Senior Jordan Scott had a tough decision to make. The basketball player was fortunate enough to be recruited by five excellent colleges: Virginia Tech, University of Maryland, Michigan State University, Florida State and University of Washington. Out of these five options Scott has narrowed it down to the first three: Virginia Tech, University of Maryland, and Michigan State University.
Scott has been playing basketball for 14 years and has been on the varsity basketball team at South Lakes since his freshman year. Last year, as a Junior, he led the SLHS boy’s basketball team to win the state championship. Scott plays as a small forward on the court. February 9th of his junior year marked his 1000th point scored. This fall, Scott was named Virginia’s Class 6 player of the year.
Similarly to many seniors, “choosing a school was hard for me,” Scott said.
All colleges have different aspects that they may add to a student’s academic and athletic career. All of the colleges Scott was choosing from were Division 1 in athletics. Similarly, all three colleges specialize in research sciences. However, they all offer a different type of campus and environment.
One of the hardest decisions for seniors who are student athletes is choosing what college they want to go to and whether they want to continue their academic career, athletic career, or both. This decision comes with a lot of pressure for seniors.
Scott has made the exciting decision to pursue both his academic and athletic ambitions at the college of his choice.
One thing that he is looking forward to while playing basketball in college is “the college atmosphere and playing in the giant arenas.” Michigan State’s basketball arena can hold up to 14,759 supporting fans, compared to a high school court that can fit only 5,100 fans.
If he could give any type of advice to a younger player, he would say, “take lots of pictures and cherish the moment. I know that a lot of people say don’t grow up too fast, but now that I’m a senior, I’d say definitely cherish the moments you have.”
Out of the three colleges that he narrowed his choices down to, Jordan Scott has decided to further his athletic and academic career at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. Michigan State Basketball has an all-time record of 15-1 against teams that make up the Southern Conference. The head coach for MSU basketball, Tom Izzo, who is assisted by Doug Wojcik, Saddi Washington and Thomas Kelly. Best of luck to Jordan Scott for his further endeavors.
