In the NLDS Game 2, the San Diego Padres broke the franchise record for most home runs in a postseason game. This happened against their state and division rival the Los Angeles Dodgers. Los Angeles Dodgers fans were angry at the Padres during the 10-2 loss, which featured six home runs and starting pitcher Yu Darvish dominating the LA lineup, giving the Padres three hits and one run over 7 innings .
In the opening inning, star outfielder for the Padres Fernando Tatis Jr hit a home run to get the Padres the first run of the game, celebrating around the bases and lighting up the dugout. Shortly after, LF Jurikson Porfar robs Mookie Betts’s home run to enrage the Dodgers crowd. During the play, he can be seen telling the crowd to quiet down. In between innings, Profar was interviewed and told reporters he didn’t say anything provocative to the fans. Afterward, during the top of the second inning, David Peralta hit a home run to make the score 3-0, further enraging the Dodgers fans. In the bottom half, Padres starter Yu Darvish ended a Dodgers rally before it got out of hand. Things started to heat up between players in the top of the sixth when Dodgers SP Jack Flaherty struck out Padres star 3B Manny Machado. Shortly after Machado went to the dugout, Flaherty started chirping at Machado. Machado responded back, heating things up. Eventually, Flaherty was taken out of the mound and benched for the rest of the inning. Later in the sixth inning, the Padres locked down the Dodgers offense, getting a quick three outs.
During the seventh inning, all of the pent up rage of the Dodgers fans came loose. This happened when Jurkickson Profar threw a game ball to a bunch of Dodgers fans. Not only was the ball thrown back, but a bunch of trash was as well that eventually caused a delay of game.
Star players, like Fernando Tatis Jr and Jurickson Profar had the biggest roles in the outrage of fans. Tatis had a two homer game, with the first one starting the scoring and the last icing a Padres victory.
