The hot stove is flaming.
Even with the name Shohei Ohtani in discussions of signing within the next week; these trade talks and free agency signings still are producing major headlines. This will be one of them until the Ohtani signing.
Soto, 25, will be headed to the Yankees in a haul for prospects which includes: RHP Michael King, C Kyle Higoshika, RHP Jhonny Brito, RHP Drew Thorpe, and RHP Randy Vorpe. The Padres will also send OF Trent Grisham to the Yankees in the deal.
Yankees Manager, Aaron Boone, said the Mega-Star Outfielder was: “As good of an offensive player there is. He’s a machine offensively— on base, power, and has already accomplished so much at a young age.”
Soto is coming off of an off year of sorts for his category of talent, having a slashline of .275/.410/.519. He was T-3rd in the league in on base percentage, getting on base 4/10 times. He also had 35 home runs, 109 Runs Batted In, and 32 doubles. At the end of this season, Soto will be a free agent. Therefore, the Yankees are expectedly reported to be attempting to come to terms with an extension. Which will have Soto in the infamous Yankee pinstripes for an extensive amount of time.
