South Lakes Football Wins on Homecoming and Look Ahead

The South Lakes Seahawks had a great performance on Friday, October 15th. South Lakes defeated the Chantilly Chargers by a score of 36-21. Not only does this win push the Seahawks to over .500 with their record now being 4-3, but also pushes the Seahawks to 2-0 in Concorde District play, tying them for first place.

South Lakes started off with a bang after senior running back Anthony Giordano rushed for a 62 yard touchdown. Chantilly answered back with a touchdown of their own, but fellow senior running back Alan Walker and the Seahawks answered right back with a 13 yard touchdown. South Lakes held the lead at 16-7 at the end of the first quarter.

To start the second quarter, Quarterback Max Daum rushed for a one yard score to extend the lead. Daum has had a tremendous season to this point. His first season as a starter under center has already seen him surpass 1000 passing yards. Additionally, the junior has a touchdown/interception rate of two. Chantilly’s next drive ends with a 39 yard passing touchdown to reduce the lead to 23-14. South Lakes kicker, sophomore Dillon Benyo drilled a 44 yard field goal to end the half as the Seahawks took the 26-14 lead into the locker room.

As the second half got under way, Giordano rushed for another long touchdown, extending the lead to 33-14. Chantilly answers back with a touchdown but South Lakes kicks another field goal to put the game away with the score of 36-21.

Giordano and the Seahawks continue to pester teams on the ground. Giordano has a great chance to get to 1000 rushing yards against Centreville, but he did achieve another great feat against Chantilly. He used a 231 yard game to vault him above the 1000 all purpose yard mark for the season. Especially considering the fact that he has not gotten over 17 carries in a game, this is quite the accomplishment. His 14 total touchdowns are also something that is notable as he has found paydirt quite often this season so far.

South Lakes has really been getting into a groove lately. This could not be coming at a better time, as not only are their next three games on the road against Concorde District teams, but the next two are against teams ahead or tied with them in the standings.
