South Lakes Field Hockey Moves on to Playoffs

The South Lakes Field Hockey team has just finished out their regular season matches, ending with a record of 11-5. They finished 3rd in the Concorde District with a record of 6-4. The captain, Teagan Ryan, was recently voted as First Team All District in her senior season.

In response to how the season has gone so far for them, Teagan said, “The season is going really well. This is the first time in forever that we’ve had a positive season.” Teagan credits the team’s success to the fact that everyone on the team is friends, allowing them to trust each other on and off the field. The season is not over yet, however, as they now will play in the Concorde District tournament. The first game is at 7 PM on Tuesday, October 19th at South Lakes. They will be playing Centreville, whom they’ve beaten twice this season already. If they win, they will have to play Oakton, whom they’ve lost to twice this season in extremely close games. When asked about the competitiveness of the Concorde District compared to that of the Liberty District in past years, Teagan says, “It’s been overall less challenging, but the teams are more evenly balanced this year. In Liberty, there are some really, really good teams like Yorktown and Washington-Liberty, but there’s also some less skilled teams like Mclean and Herndon. I like it more this year because no game is a break.”

Given that it’s her last season playing field hockey for South Lakes, I asked Teagan what her favorite memory was from the season. She said, “Obviously, beating Madison was really exciting, because they’re defending state champs. Also, I scored the game winning goal, so that was exciting.” Hopefully, the goals keep on coming for both Teagan and her teammates as the Seahawks make a run in the playoffs, starting this Tuesday night!
