Ice Hockey triumphs over Herndon in Hardcore Hockey Classic
South Lakes defeated rival Herndon 3-1 in the Hardcore Hockey Classic at Reston SkateQuest March 7.
“The boys played really well, ” senior Carter Shultz said. “We came to play and we delivered. We were pumped up more than a hot air balloon when we won.”
Shultz scored twice, contributing to the 3-1 victory.
“Carter had sniped some nice goals, placing the puck top shelf,” senior captain Logan Nasr said. “He was the MVP.
The play stopped briefly during the second period when Shultz got two teeth knocked out.
“I got my two front teeth chipped deep so the nerves were exposed,” Shultz said. “I got two root canals and crowns and four metal rods in my gums. It was expensive.”
Nevertheless, the Seahawks held on to their 2-1 lead until freshmen Brady Antonson scored their third.
“We outplayed them for the first and third periods, and the amount of fans we had cheering us on transformed the environment,” student ice hockey coach, senior Spencer Smith said.
