Dance team set to compete in Fairfax Dance Championship Saturday
Dance team performed during the final home football game of the year Nov. 8, but its season is far from over.
The team will compete in the National Dance Association Fairfax Dance Championship this Saturday, Nov. 16 at Paul VI Catholic High School.
Senior captain Erin Persil is enthusiastic about their routine, which features a variety of songs, such as Lordes’ “Royals” and JAY Z’s “Holy Grail.”
“It’s really different,” Persil said. “In the past, we’ve done jazz and pom, but this year we’re doing hip-hop. It’s going to be really cool and edgy. It has lots of lifts and tracks, and other stuff like that.”
Dance team members have been working with the routine for a while.
“We started learning choreography in late September,” Persil said. “We have three practices every week for two hours. We just do the same thing over and over. Sometimes, we go slowly to clean specific things up.”
Persil is excited for the competition and confident about her team’s prospects.
“There are a lot of other competitive high schools that are going, but I think that we’ll do well,” Persil said. “I’m looking forward to enjoying one of my last competitions. It’s so much fun to go there and see everyone’s dances and costumes.”
