Varsity field hockey defeats West Potomac in OT; will play Langley tonight
Varsity and junior varsity field hockey played against West Potomac on Sept. 17. The two games resulted in a win for the varsity team, and a loss for the JV team.Junior varsity was defeated with a score of 2-0 and the varsity team won 1-0 in a double overtime thriller.
“I think that both teams played well, but we need to improve on the small things such as hitting and controlling the ball on the move,” sophomore JV captain Kristina Woodward said.
In the varsity game, the score was tied at 0-0 until a double overtime goal by junior midfielder Megan Greatorex ended the game with a win for the varsity team, extending their record to 6-1-1.
“I knew West Potomac would be a tough team for us to compete against,” Head coach Jessica Salo said. “We managed to stay positive through the regular game and in overtime by frustrating West Potomac by staying patient and denying their attempts to score.
“I was proud of the skills and maturity both teams displayed in the games, we moved the ball around the field efficiently and exploited gaps left by West Potomac. The difference maker in the game was that we were able to effectively shut down a number of scoring opportunities attempted by West Potomac.”
JV team defeated Stuart with a score of 3-0 on Wednesday. Today, both JV and varsity will be playing Langley at home. JV is scheduled to start at 6:15 p.m., and varsity begins at 7:30.
