Cross Country kicked off season at Monroe Parker Invitational
This weekend, Cross Country visited Burke Lake Park for the Monroe Parker invitational. The race was a three mile course.
The highlights of the invitational was freshman Grace Obando placing second in the freshman girls race with a time of 19:16 and junior Andrew McCool placing 42nd out of 262 runners in the varsity race with a time of 16:20.
In the boy’s freshman race, Ben Freeman led the team with a time of 19:26, placing 67th. Along with Grace Obando in the freshman girl’s race, Emily Landeryou placed seventh with a time of 20:14.
Junior Gabrielle Acosta placed fourth in the junior varsity girl’s race, running a time of 23:35. Junior Rebekah Carrai also placed in the race, with seventh place and a time of 23:39.
The boys produced fast times in the JV race. Junior Colin Weirick ran a time of 18:40; placing 21st. Sophomores Eric Totten and Griffin Low placed 24th and 25th in the race, both running a time of 18:44.
“I think the girls did really well, but the boys could have done better,” McCool said. “None of the returning varsity beat their previous best time.”
Along with Andrew McCool, senior Nicholas DeAtley ran a time of 16:39 in the varsity race, placing 59th. Senior Luis Rivas also placed in the top 100, achieving 95th with a time of 17:03.
Sophomore Monica Lannen led the girls’ varsity race, running a time of 18:57 and placing 20th. Junior Devin Nieusma placed 27th and achieved a time of 19:15.
In the boys’ varsity race, the team placed 19th out of 29 teams. The girls’ team placed fourth out of 27 teams.
The team will travel to Lake Farifax this Wednesday to participate in a quad meet along with Washington & Lee, Hayfield and Yorktown.
