Summer is on its way, and everybody is looking for something to do. If you are a sports fan, here are a few sporting events that will be happening this summer in our area.
For golf fans, the AT&T National Golf Tournament will be played at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. Tiger Woods will be back to defend his 2012 title, from June 27-30.
Some of the world’s top tennis players will be competing at the Citi Open Tournament at the William Fitzgerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park in Washington D.C from Aug. 26-Sept. 8.
The Nationals are second in the East Division of the National League, and seem to be heading to the playoffs this year.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will be in town for a three game series from June 25-27. The Diamondbacks are at the top of their division. I recommend seeing one of these games.
In August, the Nationals will be playing their rivals, the Atlanta Braves in a three home game series from August 5-7. This is a series that I highly recommend watching. The Nationals are right behind the Braves in division standings, and this series might change that.
D.C. United is at the bottom of the Eastern Conference right now, and they will be trying to mount a comeback in standings in upcoming summer games.
Two games that would be entertaining to see is DC United against Philadelphia Union in the Open Cup, a soccer tournament held at Maryland Soccerplex. The game will be on June 12.
Another game that I recommend seeing is DC United against New York Red Bulls on August 31. Both teams are major rivals.
The wait for the football season to begin may come sooner than expected. The Washington Redskins will be playing the Pittsburgh Steelers at home on August 19and the Buffalo Bills on August 24.
