While most welcome the month of March as the beginning of spring, others look forward to the thrills of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Basketball Tournament.
Many students and teachers voice their opinions on what team they think will prevail in the tournament.
“My pick for the final four is Ohio State, Indiana, Louisville, and Kansas,” Coach Kyle said. “I have a gut feeling that Indiana is going to take it all. In the first round, my team JMU lost to Indiana. I am going to root for whoever replaced them.”
Louisville, Indiana, Kansas, and Gonzaga are currently the highest ranked teams in their regions.
Junior Ahmed Salih is an avid follower of the NCAA tournament. He, along with many others, believes that Kansas will take the championship.
“Ben McLemore is going lead Kansas to be national champions,” Salih said. “I have a bet going on with my friends that has a five dollar rule. It’s fun to try and predict the games.”
While some fill out brackets for fun, others take the tournament more seriously by placing bets. A lot of the bets are made between friends, family, and coworkers.
“I have multiple bets going on right now with Kansas taking the win,” sophomore Angie McCarthy said. “One is with my brother and if I lose, I have to buy him a video game. The smallest bet that I made was 10 dollars.”
