Varsity boy’s lacrosse defeated Briar Woods 12-5 during their first scrimmage of the season on March 4.
In the first quarter, the teams were evenly matched with three shots on goal each. The boy’s took a one point lead in the last minutes of the quarter making the score 2-1.
The Seahawks lost the lead going into the second quarter when Briar Woods scored three goals making them two points ahead. The half ended with a 4-4 tie when the boy’s gained back possession of the ball.
The second half was dominated by the Seahawks with a total of 20 shots on goal and nine goals. Out of the seven goals in the third quarter, six of them were scored by different players which made it a team win overall.
“I think that we played really well,” junior Ben Bush said. “The one thing that we need to work on is communication on the field.”
Throughout the game, the boy’s had a strong defense and offense. Alex Freidrich was able to help the team maintain a lead with 17 stops as a goalie.
During the last quarter of the game, both teams only had one goal each. The final outcome of the game was a 12-5 victory for the Seahawks.
“I think that the scrimmage went pretty well,” Coach Thomas Moran said. “It definitely felt good to come out and win our first game even though it doesn’t count. We definitely have a lot of things to improve on and we also need to work better as a unit.”
The second scrimmage will be against South County Secondary on March 6.
