Varsity baseball lost 11-1 against Marshall April 17, dropping their record to 3-8.
The team consists of 18 players, including three freshman and three sophomores.
Despite the disappointing record, head coach Gavin Morris remains positive.
“I feel we have the capability to finish strong during the second half of the season,” said Morris. “They are playing hard.”
The team finished second in their spring break tournament held in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Morris feels that they can end the season on a high note.
“We still have the second half of the season and the district tournament,” said Morris. “So pretty much, it’s two seasons left for our team. It gives us chances to improve.”
Morris pointed out the team’s strengths on defense. However, he thinks that the team needs to improve hitting.
Morris praises senior Billy McLaughlin as being consistently one of the best players.
“We are doing very well this year, “ said McLaughlin. “We are very young but have a lot of talent. It’s hard to adjust to hitting to varsity level pitches as underclassmen.”
The team will play at home versus McLean tonight.
Senior night is May 11 against Marshall.
